Can Roomwork fully replace Slack?

For teams that want conversation connected directly to the work it produces, yes — Roomwork's rooms carry internal and external messaging, Jams for live audio/video, and persistent history the same way Slack's channels do. Teams that primarily need a broad third-party app ecosystem and long-established workplace messaging conventions may still prefer Slack; the two products are built around different centers of gravity, not a strict feature checklist.

What is a Jam, and how is it different from a Slack Huddle?

A Jam is a quick audio or video conversation started inside a Roomwork room, with screen sharing and a floating window so it doesn't interrupt other work. Afterward, a Jam's start time, participants, and length are recorded directly into that room's history, alongside the messages, tasks, and files it was about — the conversation isn't a separate artifact from the project it happened in.

Does Roomwork support external guests, the way Slack Connect does?

Yes. Roomwork rooms support both internal and external messaging, so a client or contractor can participate in the same project-scoped conversation as your team, without a separate workspace.

Do we lose our Slack message history if we switch?

Roomwork does not currently import Slack history automatically. Most teams run the two in parallel for a transition period — starting new project conversations in Roomwork rooms while Slack stays reachable for historical reference — rather than a single cutover date. If you are on Slack's Free plan, only the last 90 days of history are visible, so export what you need first.

Is Roomwork only useful for software teams?

No. Rooms, Jams, tasks, and time tracking apply to any project-based team. The GitHub and security/QA layer (Flaw Detect, Code, and QA) is most relevant to teams shipping software, but it sits alongside the rest of the workflow rather than being required to use it.
