Compare · Shortcut

Shortcut keeps product planning lightweight.
Roomwork keeps the whole project connected.

Shortcut is a strong choice for software teams that want fast, flexible planning — stories, epics, and sprints that work across Kanban, Scrum, or XP, without Jira's overhead. Roomwork is the better fit when that same execution needs to stay connected to the conversation that produced it, the time spent on it, and the checks that confirmed it actually shipped correctly.

One real scenario

What actually happens in the room

Talk → Plan → Track → Ship → Verify

A team discusses an item in a room, jumps into a Jam to talk it through, turns the decision into a task and a GitHub issue, tracks time to that exact unit of work, ships the change, runs security and QA checks, and reviews the result and its cost — without reconstructing the story across five separate tools.

Coming from Shortcut

What carries over, and what doesn't

Most of Shortcut's own instincts map over directly — a couple genuinely don't yet.

What changes

What teams notice after the switch

Planning stays attached to the conversation
A story doesn't just link out to Slack — the room it was discussed in is the same room the task lives in, with no separate window to check.
Time is tied to the actual task
Roomwork Time connects hours to the exact task and project they were spent on, with budgets, payroll, and audit built in — not a separate Clockify tab.
Shipped work gets verified, in place
Flaw's Code, Detect, and QA checks run against what actually shipped, in the same project context — not a separate security dashboard to check later.

Questions

Before you switch

Can Roomwork replace Shortcut for a software team?
For a team that wants planning connected to conversation, time, and delivery verification, yes. Teams whose priority is a fast, minimal, methodology-agnostic issue tracker with nothing else attached may prefer Shortcut's narrower focus — the two products solve different-sized problems.
Does Roomwork support Kanban and Scrum-style planning like Shortcut?
Roomwork offers Grid and Kanban views for a project's tasks, with statuses and WIP limits. It does not currently offer Shortcut's full range of methodology templates (Kanban, Scrum, XP, APF, XPM) as distinct, named workflow modes.
Does Roomwork have epics, the way Shortcut does?
Not as a dedicated hierarchy. Projects in Roomwork group related tasks together, but there isn't a separate epic layer above that the way Shortcut structures stories under epics.
Do we lose our Shortcut story history if we switch?
Roomwork does not currently import Shortcut stories automatically. Most teams keep Shortcut reachable for historical reference while starting new project work in Roomwork rooms, rather than a single cutover date.
